Introduction:
Mardin is a city in southeastern Turkey. The capital of Mardin Province, it is known for the Artuqid architecture of its old city, and for its strategic location on a rocky hill near the Tigris River that rises steeply over the flat plains.

Mardin's honey-coloured collage of old buildings and markets is still definitely worth a look though, and for somewhere extra special, detour to Dara or Savur.

The airport of Mardin is located southwest of the city, close to Kızıltepe. From the main road in front of the exit you can easily flag down a dolmuş coming from Kızıltepe going to Mardin . At the time of writing, a new airport building was about to open soon. Mardin airport is well connected to Istanbul by Turkish Airlines and Pegasus Airlines.
