Introduction:

Strokkur is a fountain geyser in the geothermal area beside the Hvítá River in Iceland in the southwest part of the country, east of Reykjavík. It is one of Iceland's most famous geysers,erupting about every 4–8 minutes 15 – 20 m high, sometimes up to 40 m high.

Get in:

Sterna  and Reykjavík Excursions  operate regular bus service from West Iceland, South Iceland and Akureyri. If you find yourself in other parts of the country, it will be difficult to find a direct bus route to Reykjavík. The best option, if relying on buses, is to first get into the aforementioned regions and catch a bus to Reykjavík from there. This will probably require an overnight stay.

Introduction:

The Goðafoss  is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland. It is located in the Bárðardalur district of North-Central Iceland at the beginning of the Sprengisandur highland road. The water of the river Skjálfandafljót falls from a height of 12 meters over a width of 30 meters.

Facts:

Godafoss is closely connected with one of the most important event in Icelandic history, the conversion to Christianity from heathendom or "the old custom" in the year 1000.
In the year 1000, Thorgeir Thorkelsson, the law Speaker of the Icelandic Parliament lived on the farm Ljosavatn only 2 km from the waterfall.

Get in:

The Ring Road passes through much of north Iceland and the region is easily reached by car from any other regions. The distance from Reykjavík to Blönduós is 244km with another 144km to Akureyri. From Egilsstaðir in East Iceland to Akureyri the distance is 260km.

Introduction:

East of Reykjavik lies a mountain named Hengill. Hengill was formed from a Palagomite tuff and its highest point is around 800 metres above sea level. Hengill is a central volcano and has a giant magma chamber beneath it.

When the lava cools, it contracts. This is because hot things generally take up more space than cool things. Think about hot steam, for instance. When you open the lid of a simmering pot or a tea kettle, that hot steam wants to escape and expand into the air.

When thick basalt lava flows cool, they tend to form hexagonal cracks, called columnar joints. Among the world's best-known examples of these "columnar basalts" are the Giant's Causeway in Ireland and the Devil's Postpile in California. No exposures of those scales exist in Hawaiʻi, but the columnar jointing in the Mauna Loa flow exposed at Boiling Pots, though small, provides a great opportunity to observe the result of lava's cooling process.

1. Navagio Beach in Greece 

Navagio Beach , or Shipwreck Beach, is an exposed cove, sometimes referred to as "Smugglers Cove", on the coast of Zakynthos, in the Ionian Islands of Greece. It has been so named since 1983, when the alleged smuggler ship Panagiotis was wrecked on the beach while transporting cigarettes. It was previously known as Agios Georgios.

2. Jaz Beach, Montenegro

Jaz  is a beach in the Budva Municipality in Montenegro. It is located 2.5 km west of Budva. It consists of two parts, one 850 m long and the other, formerly a nudist beach, 450 m long. It is a pebble beach, with a campground along the greater part of the beach (capacity 2,000 lots).

4. Vik Beach, Iceland

The village of Vík  is the southernmost village in Iceland, located on the main ring road around the island, around 180 km (110 mi) by road southeast of Reykjavík.

Despite its small size (291 inhabitants as of January 2011) it is the largest settlement for some 70 km (43 mi) around and is an important staging post, thus it is indicated on road signs from a long distance away.

The black beach in Vik is called by its local name Reynishverfi and since it is famous because of it’s black sand and basalt sea stack, tour guides are more willing to take you 10 km just before you hit Vik proper. That is where the black beach with 68m high boulders can be found.

About 50 kilometers north of the Þingvallavatn Lake lies Iceland's second largest glacier Langjökull. In the past, melting ice from the glacier would run through a river directly into the Þingvallavatn Lake.
